Counter-Height Circle Chair

(inspired by Michael Fortune)

The Story

The Circle Chair and the Counter-Height Circle Chair owe their seating shapes and comfort to one of our favorite woodworkers, Michael Fortune. Our variation has a redesigned structure made from metal tubing, and the wood pieces are made of laminated Baltic birch plywood that you see on-edge. The lines from the plywood make interesting curves around the shaped edges of the pieces. The chairs are called “Circle” because nearly all of the pieces and lines are arcs of circles: the seat and seat-back faces and edges, the curved metal tubing, and of course the tubing itself is a circle in cross-section. There is a statement (we think originating with Jere Osgood) that “a straight line is a wasted opportunity”, so here you go!
